The CEO of one of the largest manufacturers of Intel chips, Pat Gelsinger, in an interview with Bloomberg Technology, criticized the first crypto currency for its impact on the environment.
"One transaction on the bitcoin network consumes enough energy to power the house throughout the day. This is a climate crisis," he said.
Intel CEO also recalled the company's plans to release a new chip for mining, which "will help the development of technology in a responsible and sustainable way."
According to the announcement, the devices will be released on "tiny chips", so their release will have minimal impact on current production processes. The details were promised to be revealed at the ISSCC international conference in February.
Gelsinger also promised to work on correcting the situation and added that the technology can transform currency, transactions and supply chains.
In January, the non-profit organization Cardano Foundation reached the goal of one million trees planted as part of the Cardano Forest environmental project using the ADA token.
Much ado about nothing: why the problem of Bitcoin's impact on the environment is Exaggerated
