system allows you to easily configure certain sounds to be played at any arbitrary internal system event or external event. 

It can give you an idea of your system while running (e.g. CPU/RAM/disk/network usage, audit events, etc.) without taking up space on your screen or notifications about external events such as something changed on some arbitrary website.
