PCLinuxOS - Linux distribution
PCLinuxOS (PCLOS) is a Linux distribution designed for personal computers. Includes a complete set of software for everyday use. PCLinuxOS is easy to install, configure and use.
PCLinuxOS was founded in 2003, and was initially based on Mandrake Linux (the current name of Mandriva Linux), but then began to develop independently.
Interface
Editions with desktop environments are being officially developed:
KDE
MATE
XFCE
Builds with the following desktop environments are being developed separately by the community:
LXDE
LXQt
Trinity
Customization
PCLinuxOS has the PCLinuxOS Control Center (PCC) utility for unified system configuration, which is based on drakxtools (presented in the Mandriva Linux distribution).
Packages
PCLinuxOS uses the Advanced Packaging Tool (APT) and the Synaptic package manager to manage packages.
The format of the packages used is RPM.
Update
The system is updated via Synaptic.
PCLinuxOS is updated according to the rolling release model. Package updates appear immediately with the release of new versions of programs.
The mylivecd script
PCLinuxOS has a special utility (script) mylivecd (formerly called mklivecd). This script takes a snapshot of the current system with all user data, including user files, settings, applications and generates an ISO image.
From such an image, you can completely restore the system, or use it as a LiveCD. You can also install the system from it without downloading in Live mode.
Installation
You can install the system from both LiveCD and USB. The distribution package includes proprietary drivers for Nvidia and ATI graphics cards.
